Hands-on help, Ground-level learning
Access to quality healthcare in Guatemala is far from equal. In rural and low-income communities, clinics often lack the staff, supplies, and support needed to meet basic health needs.
As a medical volunteer in Guatemala, you will work alongside local professionals who know their communities inside out. Being a healthcare volunteer abroad, you may find yourself helping out in a mobile medical clinic, supporting nutrition outreach programs, or assisting in public health volunteering projects. You will be contributing to real, hands-on work.
Our focus is on ethical medical volunteering and collaboration. You’ll be placed in a role that matches your experience and interests while respecting the priorities of the communities we work with.

What You Will Do
The range of healthcare initiatives to get involved with is vast, and all are hands-on. Some days you may be supporting local medics in mobile clinics. Other days, you could be prepping materials for community health workshops or gathering data for health campaigns.
You will be placed based on your experience, skills, and language level. You will witness challenges first-hand and work alongside local initiatives leading the charge to address them.
How We Match You
We work with a network of trusted health organizations and clinics in Guatemala, and carefully match you based on:
- Time commitment – Some organisations are fine with short stays, others need a longer one.
- Experience – Certain placements need specific skills; others just need passion.
- Spanish level – Some roles need Spanish speakers, others require just a basic level.
That way, both you and the organization benefit.
Who You’ll Work With
We partner with local medical initiatives and nonprofits working in:
- Mobile clinics in rural areas
- Maternal & child health
- Nutrition education & outreach
- Workshops on sanitation and hygiene
- Institutional strengthening for local health centers
These are small teams doing big work, with little support. You won’t just be helping out. You will be learning what community-led healthcare looks like, from the inside.
