Mary’s Experience in Teaching Local Children
What was it like to volunteer with us?:
My experience volunteering in Guatemala was absolutely unforgettable! It all started with the wonderful Rustom, who went above and beyond to make sure I got the most out of my trip. He shared so much insight and knowledge, guiding me through the stunning city of Guatemala. It genuinely felt like having a personal travel advisor.
From helping me get medication to organizing tours, introducing me to my homestay family, and setting up my work placement, nothing was too much trouble. Whether it was suggesting a two-day volcano hike or exploring Mayan ruins, Rustom was always ready to help. As my first solo adventure, I couldn’t have asked for smoother planning. He even arranged weekend activities for me, including on his own day off!
What stood out during your trip?:
The highlight was definitely the work placement. Teaching two after-school English classes was an incredible experience. The students were bright, enthusiastic, and respectful, and sharing lunch with them after class was just as rewarding. Beyond that, exploring volcanoes, Mayan ruins, and local culture made the trip even more special. Everything ran smoothly, making my first solo trip completely stress-free and enriching.
How did this volunteering experience impact you?:
This trip taught me so much and left a lasting impact on my perspective, shaping how I view the world. Spanish Marks provides personalized Spanish lessons, staff who treat you like family, and a fully organized experience centered on your needs. By the end, I had unforgettable memories and a longing to do it all over again.
Choosing to take the plunge and volunteer was hands down the best decision I’ve ever made – they’ve truly set a standard that’s hard to match.
Thank you so much everyone – forever in my heart.
